I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees.
-Henry David Thoreau
Nantahala Hiking Club (NHC) members are a diverse group of people with a collective passion for recreation and stewardship. At our meetings and on our hikes, you will meet families participating together, couples, and individuals, all of whom enjoy the outdoors and want to preserve its beauty and accessibility for future generations.
Most of our members live in North Carolina or Georgia, but we have many members in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and as far away as California.
We aim to build an active membership that engages in club events and responsibilities. NHC’s participation in a variety of community and outreach activities provides an excellent opportunity to volunteer within the club. Those members interested in trail maintenance meet at the NHC clubhouse in Franklin on Wednesdays at 8:45 am.
We are a non-profit organization. All board members serve on a volunteer basis and do not receive any compensation. Your membership dues help support the work of the NHC and its Appalachian Trail maintainers. We encourage all members to consider renewing each year as supporting members, and maintenance and conservation activities. Membership is open to everyone who shares the club’s commitment to the Appalachian Trail and is interested in the club’s activities.
You can join the Nantahala Hiking Club by clicking here membership/renewal form and printing the membership form. Complete the form and mail with your check to the address indicated on the form.
After joining, you will receive a welcome letter, club fact sheet, NHC decal, and a copy of our latest newsletter.
A note on membership applications: We are a volunteer-based hiking club, and do not have a staffed office. Please be patient and allow up to a month for your membership to be processed.
